U.S. Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford, 28, has been identified as the suspect in a deadly shooting at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he worked as an automated logistics sergeant. The incident resulted in five soldiers being injured, with all receiving on-site treatment before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital.
Radford, who has been apprehended, is currently in pre-trial confinement following the shooting. He was arrested by the Georgia Department of Public Safety for driving under the influence and for failing to obey a traffic control device on May 18, 2025. According to a summons obtained by Fox News Digital, Radford allegedly told the responding officer that he ran a red light because he needed to use the bathroom.
The shooting, which took place at his workplace, is alleged to have involved a personal weapon. The U.S. Army confirmed that Radford has never been deployed and joined as an Automated Logistical Specialist in January 2018. The Army said the soldiers were shot in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) area of the base.
Following the incident, Fort Stewart officials implemented a lockdown, and the base was placed under heightened security measures. The Army reported that all injured soldiers were treated on-site before being evacuated to Winn Army Community Hospital for further medical care.
Investigators are currently examining the circumstances leading up to the shooting, with no official motive or weapon details released. Law enforcement is also reviewing Radford’s prior record, which includes the recent traffic-related charge from 2025, to determine if there are any potential links to the incident.
The Army has not yet announced any changes to base operations or security procedures in response to the shooting. However, officials emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all personnel and are working closely with local authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly.
