The meeting, held in Kyiv, focused on the need for customs reform to create a more favorable business environment for Japanese companies operating in the country. Ambassador Nakagome emphasized the importance of streamlining customs procedures to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and improve efficiency in trade and investment.

During the discussions, both parties acknowledged the challenges posed by Ukraine’s complex regulatory framework and the potential benefits of aligning customs practices with international standards. The Japanese delegation expressed its support for Ukraine’s economic reforms and the country’s efforts to attract foreign investment. In response, Marchenko outlined Ukraine’s short-term and long-term plans to modernize its customs infrastructure, including the integration of digital systems to enhance transparency and reduce corruption.
