Authorities in Ukraine have taken action against a group involved in a fraudulent scheme targeting individuals attempting to evade conscription in Odesa. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the plot was orchestrated by a traumatologist, two local residents, and the head of a security unit at a military recruitment center. The scheme involved providing fake medical procedures to facilitate draft evasion.
The PGO reported that the accused individuals were exploiting the vulnerabilities of those seeking to avoid mobilization by offering fraudulent surgical interventions. This illegal activity is part of a growing trend of organized crime targeting military recruitment processes in Ukraine.
