Halyna Hryhorenko, the First Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, has underscored the importance of significantly increasing funding for Ukraine’s cinema sector during the upcoming 2026 fiscal year. In a recent meeting with cultural stakeholders, she confirmed that the Ministry is working towards securing at least UAH 500–600 million in funding for the film industry.
The proposal comes amid growing recognition of the film sector’s role in shaping Ukraine’s cultural identity and its potential to contribute to the economy through tourism and international co-productions. Hryhorenko highlighted that the increased funding will support the development of infrastructure, training for local talent, and the production of high-quality cinematic works that can compete on global platforms.
Industry experts have welcomed the move, noting that the additional financial support could catalyze innovation and investment in the Ukrainian film industry. However, they have also emphasized the need for transparent allocation of funds and efficient management to ensure that the resources are effectively utilized. As the 2026 funding plan takes shape, the Ukrainian film community is hopeful that this investment will lead to a renaissance in national cinema and greater international recognition for Ukrainian filmmakers.
