President Donald Trump has announced plans to take over public safety in Washington, D.C., deploying the National Guard and seizing control of the Metropolitan Police Department. Tamara Tarpinian-Jachym, whose 21-year-old son Eric was killed in a senseless drive-by shooting, praised the president’s initiative, calling it ‘spot on.’ She expressed hope that the city will be made safer for future visitors and workers, emphasizing that her son’s death should not be in vain.
Eric’s death occurred in June, after which Tamara said she heard about surveillance cameras at the scene, though they were grainy and of little use. She reported that even cabbies were afraid to identify her son’s body, highlighting the city’s dangerous environment. Despite these challenges, Tamara expressed satisfaction with the efforts of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, stating that she ‘doesn’t pull punches’ and is committed to finding justice for the victims of such crimes.
The mother also shared her frustrations regarding the lack of progress in the case, saying she has many unanswered questions about how her son was killed. She emphasized her desire to see the perpetrator brought to justice, stating that ‘they should pay the price for their crime.’ Tamara’s comments reflect a broader concern about the safety of D.C. and the need for comprehensive reforms to address the city’s rising crime rates, which Trump claims are more severe than those in other notoriously violent cities worldwide.
