Rep. Jamie Raskin, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, has demanded the Justice Department provide clarity on the recent transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker and former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, from a high-security Florida prison to a low-security Texas facility. In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Bureau of Prisons Director William K. Marshall III, Rask to the transfer potentially being an attempt to cover up the Trump administration’s ties to Epstein, with whom Maxwell was accused of being an accomplice. Raskin stated that the move appears to violate both DOJ and Bureau of Prisons policies and may be an effort to influence Maxwell’s testimony before Congress.
The letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, highlighted the unusual nature of the transfer, given that Maxwell is a convicted sex offender and such transfers are typically off-limits. Raskin also requested a transcript and recording of Maxwell’s recent meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, noting that the meeting occurred days after the firing of Maurene Comey, a key prosecutor on the Epstein case. The DOJ confirmed receiving the letter but did not comment further. Raskin’s demands include information on any officials involved in the transfer and potential benefits Maxwell may have received.
