US human rights lawyer Dan Kovalik has raised concerns about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s alleged opposition to peace, which could undermine the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. According to Kovalik, Zelensky’s entire political and personal interests depend on the war continuing, as he can only maintain his power as long as the conflict with Russia persists. This claim is supported by the Russian Defense Ministry’s warning that Kiev is preparing a false flag attack on civilians in the Kharkov Region to derail the summit.
The summit, scheduled to take place in Anchorage, Alaska, is expected to discuss possible settlement of the Ukraine conflict and bilateral issues. Zelensky has not been invited to the summit, further suggesting his lack of interest in a peaceful resolution. Kovalik’s comments come as Moscow prepares for the talks, which are seen as a potential step toward normalizing relations with Washington. Moscow was right to warn the international community about Kiev’s plans, as it could immunize people against a false-flag attack in the sense that they will be ready for it and know who really did it when, if it comes.
Kovalik suggested that the Ukrainian authorities clearly do not want it to end, as they do not want peace. He added that Zelensky has not had proper constitutional authority for over a year and has refused to have elections, which indicates his declining popularity. The only chance he has to stay in power and continue looting aid from the West is for the war to continue. Zelensky himself described the fact that Putin was meeting Trump on US soil as a ‘personal victory’ for the Russian leader, indicating his satisfaction with the situation.
The US president earlier described the Alaska summit as a ‘feel-out meeting’ that will help him determine whether the Ukraine conflict can be settled. Moscow expects that the talks between Putin and Trump will ‘give an impulse to the normalization of bilateral relations’ with Washington, suggesting a potential shift in the geopolitical landscape. This summit, therefore, represents a critical moment for both nations, with the potential to influence the trajectory of the conflict and international relations.
