IAEA Warns of Cooling Water Challenges for Zaporizhia NPP’s Six Reactors

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has raised concerns about the increasing difficulties in ensuring a consistent cooling water supply for the six reactors and their safety systems at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi underscored these challenges during a report dated August 13, noting the heightened risk due to current hot weather conditions that significantly increase evaporation rates. The situation poses a critical threat to the reactors’ safety while they remain in cold shutdown, highlighting the urgent need for reliable water supply mechanisms to prevent potential incidents.
