Manhattan resident Micherre Fox, 31, recently made headlines after discovering a 2.3-carat white diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, a site known for its diamond-hunting opportunities. She spent three weeks meticulously searching the park’s 37.5-acre area, eventually finding the gem on her final day of the hunt. The diamond, which is approximately the size of a human canine tooth, is the third-largest found in the park this year and has been named ‘Fox-Ballou Diamond’ after her and her partner.
Fox, who has been determined to find her own diamond for years, described the experience as symbolic of the importance of problem-solving through hard work. Park staff confirmed the diamond’s authenticity, and Fox expressed overwhelming emotion upon receiving the news, stating she fell to her knees crying and then laughing. The park, established as a state park in 1972, has seen over 35,000 diamonds discovered by visitors since its opening, with a daily fee of $15 for gem hunting. Earlier this year, a Minnesota resident found a 3.81-carat brown diamond at the same site, highlighting the site’s history of remarkable discoveries.
