Queen Elizabeth II’s Wardrobe to Star in Major Buckingham Palace Exhibition

The Royal Collection Trust has announced a major exhibition titled “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style” at Buckingham Palace’s King’s Gallery, set to open in spring 2026. This exhibit marks the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth and will showcase over 200 items from her wardrobe, spanning her life from childhood through her long reign as monarch. The display will feature a mix of iconic and previously unseen pieces, including her 1947 wedding dress and 1953 coronation dress, as well as her early childhood attire such as the silver lamé and tulle bridesmaid dress worn at her uncle’s wedding in 1934.

The exhibition, described by the Royal Collection Trust as the “largest and most comprehensive” collection of the queen’s fashion ever organized, will include clothing, jewelry, hats, and accessories, along with original design sketches and fabric samples. Visitors will also see handwritten correspondence showing the queen’s hands-on involvement in the creation of her wardrobe, offering insight into her personal style and the craftsmanship behind each garment.

Curator Caroline de Guitaut highlighted the significance of Elizabeth’s style, calling it “instantly recognizable across the world.” The exhibition provides an opportunity to explore the cultural and historical impact of the queen’s fashion choices, as well as her role in shaping and promoting British style. It is expected to attract a wide audience, from fashion enthusiasts to history buffs, and will celebrate the enduring influence of Queen Elizabeth II’s wardrobe on contemporary design and British culture.

Marking the centenary of the queen’s birth, the exhibit will run at Buckingham Palace from spring to fall 2026. This event is expected to be a landmark in the cultural calendar, reflecting the lasting legacy of Queen Elizabeth II’s personal style and its continued relevance in the global fashion landscape.
