Authorities are closely examining the statements of a California mother, Rebecca Haro, whose 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, remains missing. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that inconsistencies in Haro’s account of the incident have led to her refusal to continue cooperating with investigators. Haro initially told authorities that her son was kidnapped during an assault outside a store, but discrepancies surfaced in her narrative, prompting law enforcement to consider the possibility of foul play.
On August 14, deputies were first called to the scene around 7:47 p.m. when a report of the missing infant was made. Haro claimed she had been attacked outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods store and that her son was taken during the altercation. However, further questioning revealed significant inconsistencies in her account. The sheriff’s department noted that no security footage was available at the scene, and an Amber Alert was not issued due to the lack of suspect details, which failed to meet the criteria for activation. Investigators continue to search for Emmanuel, who was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie and is described as approximately 24 inches tall with brown hair, brown eyes, and a cross-eyed appearance.
The case has drawn attention from advocacy groups, including the Uvalde Foundation for Kids, which initially offered a $5,000 reward for Emmanuel’s recovery. However, the foundation withdrew its support less than a day later, citing concerns over the inconsistencies in the mother’s statements and her decision to end communication with law enforcement. The foundation’s founder, Daniel Chapin, expressed skepticism about the mother’s actions and urged authorities to continue their investigation. The sheriff’s department has confirmed that the case remains active and is urging anyone with relevant information to contact them at 909-890-4904.
