Kristi Noem Details Trump’s Border Wall Strategy with New Black Paint Initiative

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced plans to paint the entire southern border wall black as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to enhance its effectiveness as a deterrent. The decision aims to increase the wall’s heat retention, making it harder to climb, and prolong its lifespan. Noem emphasized that the measure was requested by President Donald Trump, who believes the black paint will deter illegal crossings. Additionally, she highlighted the role of the recently passed ‘one big, beautiful bill’ in funding the wall’s construction and the broader border security initiatives.

Speaking in front of a section of the southern border wall in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Noem stated that the decision to paint the wall black was specifically at the request of President Donald Trump. She noted that the black color will make the wall significantly hotter in the intense desert heat, which she argued will discourage illegal migration. Furthermore, Noem emphasized that the new paint job is part of a comprehensive approach to border security that includes advanced technology, surveillance systems, and infrastructure investments.

Noem also highlighted the progress of the wall construction, with the project moving at a pace of nearly half a mile per day. She pointed to the recent bipartisan legislation passed by Congress as a critical factor in enabling the continued expansion of the wall. The secretary added that the administration is also focusing on securing the northern border, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to protecting all areas of the U.S. border.

The announcement was accompanied by remarks from Interim Chief Patrol Agent Walter Slosar of the El Paso Sector, who reported a significant increase in the number of apprehensions compared to the previous administration. Slosar noted that Border Patrol agents are now apprehending an average of 41 individuals per day, with most being single adults from Mexico, Guatemala, and Ecuador. He attributed the improved performance to increased enforcement and a more assertive approach to border security.

Additionally, Noem expressed gratitude for the administration’s leadership in advocating for a secure border, which she believes is essential for the country’s future. She emphasized that the wall and related measures will ensure that the border remains secure and efficient for years to come.
