The head of Ukraine’s National Police, Ivan Vyhivsky, has called for the introduction of administrative liability for the use of vehicles with loud exhaust systems. This measure is intended to address noise pollution and enhance road safety. Vyhivsky’s proposal comes amid increasing public complaints about the noise generated by such vehicles, particularly in urban areas.
The National Police chief emphasized that enforcing administrative penalties could serve as a deterrent against the misuse of loud exhaust systems. He stated that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve traffic management and public order. Vyhivsky’s comments were made during a press conference where he outlined several other measures aimed at modernizing law enforcement procedures.
While the proposal has received some support from environmental and community groups, it has also faced criticism from car enthusiasts and certain business sectors. Critics argue that the measure could disproportionately affect private vehicle owners and hinder legitimate uses of modified exhaust systems. Nevertheless, Vyhivsky remains committed to implementing the policy, citing the need to protect citizens from excessive noise and traffic-related risks.
