Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback, has accepted a plea deal for his DUI conviction in Tennessee, resulting in a 4-day jail sentence, a $350 fine, and the revocation of his driver’s license. According to WSMV, Cutler pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in a Tennessee courtroom. The plea deal also dismissed a weapon possession charge, though he is required to forfeit his gun.
Cutler must serve his four-day jail sentence next month and pay a $350 fine. He was arrested last fall after allegedly hitting the back of another vehicle in Franklin, Tennessee. Officers on the scene reported that he was slurring his speech and refused to participate in field sobriety tests. A blood sample was later taken at a local hospital under a warrant.
Authorities found a rifle and a loaded pistol in the center console of Cutler’s truck. The original charges against him included DUI, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, implied consent, and possession of a handgun while under the influence. Under the plea deal, the charges related to the handgun and collision were dismissed.
After serving his jail time, Cutler must attend a DUI safety class and will be on unsupervised probation for one year. His driver’s license has been revoked. Cutler was the 11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos after star-studded performances at Vanderbilt. He played 37 games for the Broncos from 2006-08 before moving to the Chicago Bears for the majority of his 12-year NFL career.
With the Bears, Cutler threw for 23,443 yards and 154 touchdowns over 102 regular-season games. The Bears reached the playoffs only once during his tenure in 2010. Cutler concluded his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2017, amassing 35,133 passing yards and 160 touchdowns over 153 games.
