Florida Mom Alleges School District Targeting Conservative Families Through ‘Dictator’ Award

Crystal Marull, a Florida mother, has accused Alachua County Public Schools of targeting conservative families after a teacher reportedly nominated her son for a ‘most likely to become a dictator’ award. During a State Board of Education meeting, Marull revealed her concerns about her children having been treated unfairly for their conservative beliefs. She said she had previously had multiple run-ins with the school district, and she felt compelled to report these incidents due to their alleged pattern of abuse of power.

Marull described specific events, including her younger son being barred from sitting next to his friend on the school bus due to a parent’s objection to her beliefs about book challenges. She also recounted an incident in May 2023 where her older son was labeled a ‘Naziphile’ by his history teacher for his interest in history and participation in ROTC. The teacher reportedly nominated him for the ‘dictator’ award, which he refused, arguing that the teacher didn’t seem to understand the subject and that the incident was inappropriate.

Other parents have also raised concerns about the district. Jeremy Clepper, a Florida parent, demanded the resignation of school board chair Sarah Rockwell for a controversial comment she made about MAGA supporters and Hulk Hogan’s death. The district said it was investigating the allegations and had placed the involved teacher on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
