World Series champion Mark Teixeira, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Congress in Texas, offered a pointed message to Democrats who are discontent with the state’s new congressional map. During an appearance on Fox News’ ‘America Reports,’ he stated that progressives in America ‘don’t work,’ using examples like cities with Democratic leadership and President Trump’s policies as proof. Teixeira, who announced his campaign for Texas’ 21st Congressional District on Thursday, urged Democrats to adopt ‘better policies’ and emphasized Republican values centered on economic growth, border security, and individual freedoms.
The former New York Yankees slugger criticized the notion that progressive policies are effective, stating that he has seen the results in cities with Democratic mayors and noted the success of Trump’s approach in Washington. He reiterated that his campaign is about ‘helping Americans, helping American families, and helping America prosper,’ and insisted that he will run on the principles of secure borders, low taxes, and limited government. Teixeira also highlighted his personal connection to the district, stating that it is home to ‘great people, patriots that love God, love their country, and love the state of Texas.’
Teixeira’s announcement followed Rep. Chip Roy’s decision not to seek re-election, as he prepares to run for Texas attorney general. He said his policy agenda is ‘pretty simple,’ focusing on conservative principles such as preserving life, protecting the Second Amendment, and supporting economic expansion. Despite his focus on conservative themes, Teixeira’s campaign has already sparked backlash from the left, with critics accusing him of misrepresenting progressive values. The 45-year-old athlete, who played for four MLB teams, including the New York Yankees, has transitioned from sports to politics, offering his perspective on the current state of American politics.
