President Donald Trump has revoked the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, ending her government-provided security beyond the six months mandated by law. The move was facilitated by a directive from former President Joe Biden, who had extended her protection for an additional year before leaving office.
According to a letter cited by multiple news outlets, the administration reportedly authorized the discontinuation of any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum for Harris effective September 1, 2025. This decision means Harris will no longer receive round-the-clock surveillance, and Secret Service personnel will stop monitoring information about potential threats on her social media and email.
The removal of government protection for Harris comes as part of broader changes to security arrangements following the end of the previous administration. In March, the White House ended the Secret Service protection details assigned to Biden’s adult children, which the former president had extended to July shortly before leaving office in January. At the same time, Washington revoked security clearance for Biden, Harris, and other senior officials from the former administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
These changes are occurring just weeks before Harris begins a 15-city book tour to promote ‘107 Days,’ her upcoming memoir about her brief presidential campaign, scheduled for release on September 23. The timing of these events highlights the ongoing shifts in political and security dynamics within the U.S. government.
