A Chuck E. Cheese employee was arrested while wearing the mascot costume after being accused of stealing a customer’s credit card during a birthday party. The incident was captured on bodycam footage, with kids and parents watching as the mascot was detained. Officer interactions with the customer and the mascot were documented, highlighting the unusual nature of the arrest.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman who reported the theft said she had regular visits to the establishment and had last had physical control of her card when she attended her child’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese on June 28. The victim provided police with footage of her debit card being used at an establishment she did not shop at, and she recognized Jones as an employee of Chuck E. Cheese. Jones denied any wrongdoing but admitted to finding the credit card on the day of the incident and stated that he had not used it. However, police confirmed that the card found in his left front pocket had the victim’s name on it.
Along with the credit card, Jones was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He told the officer that he was on the way to getting a medical marijuana license. Chuck E. Cheese did not immediately respond to the inquiry. The incident has sparked discussions around workplace conduct and employee responsibilities, particularly in environments where children are present.
