On Friday, September 5, at 11:00 AM, Interfax-Ukraine will host a press conference at its press center focused on the critical issue of access to innovative cancer and orphan disease treatments for Ukrainian patients. The event, titled ‘Patient Organizations Ask the State to Unblock Resources for the Purchase of Innovative Drugs for Patients with Cancer and Orphan Diseases,’ will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the barriers preventing the procurement of life-saving medications.
Representatives from public organizations dedicated to protecting patients’ rights will explain why, despite the availability of resources in the state and local budgets, the purchase of these vital treatments remains blocked. They will highlight the profound impact on the lives of hundreds of patients, including children, veterans, and military personnel, whose conditions require innovative therapies for survival and quality of life. The discussion will also explore the limitations of recent budget amendments passed by the Verkhovna Rada and the need for comprehensive, systemic solutions to ensure long-term access to modern medical treatments.
Among the participants will be Tetiana Kulesha, Head of the Council of the public association Orphan Diseases of Ukraine, and Viktor Serdyuk, President of the All-Ukrainian charitable organization Council for the Protection of Patients’ Rights and Safety. Patients who rely on innovative drugs to prolong their lives will also share their experiences, adding a personal dimension to the advocacy efforts. The press conference will be broadcast live on the Interfax-Ukraine YouTube channel, ensuring wide accessibility for the public and media.
