Louisiana Governor Proposes Using Angola Prison for Migrants

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has proposed using Angola Prison, a maximum-security facility known for housing violent offenders, to detain asylum seekers from Central America. The governor emphasized during an interview on ‘America’s Newsroom’ that the prison’s existing infrastructure and capacity make it an ideal location for housing individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety. Landry argued that the facility, which has a long history of managing dangerous inmates, is better equipped than other detention centers to handle the influx of migrants seeking asylum in the United States.

During the same interview, Landry addressed President Donald Trump’s recent call for the deployment of the National Guard to New Orleans to assist with migrant processing. The governor expressed support for federal leadership in managing the crisis, stating that state resources should not be overextended in the face of a national issue. He noted that while Louisiana has been a key location for migrant detention, the state requires federal coordination to effectively address the growing humanitarian and security concerns associated with the migrant influx.
