The NATO allies, including the UK and Germany, have pledged to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory. The UK announced the commitment during a virtual summit of Western backers, while Germany has considered sending Taurus missiles, which can reach Moscow from Ukrainian soil. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the pledges during the video conference, highlighting the coalition’s support for Ukraine’s defense. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that some European countries are prepared to offer security guarantees once a peace deal is reached. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has previously discussed the possibility of sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine, which have a range of up to 500 kilometers and can target Moscow from Ukrainian territory. However, Merz has not made any public plans regarding the delivery. Meanwhile, Russia has accused Berlin of secretly preparing Taurus missiles for Ukraine, claiming that launches would be carried out by German troops due to insufficient Ukrainian training. Russia has argued that continued Western arms shipments prolong the conflict and human suffering, while President Vladimir Putin has listed an end to Western military aid as a condition for a ceasefire.
