New Jersey Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault of Two Students

A 37-year-old school teacher from New Jersey, Julie Rizzitello, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two of her teen students over multiple years, prosecutors stated. The incidents, which occurred in 2017 and 2024, led to charges of second-degree sexual assault, witness tampering, and criminal sexual contact. Rizzitello, who taught English at Wall High School in Wall Township, was arrested in July 2024 after an employee reportedly raised concerns about her relationship with a student.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that Rizzitello had engaged in sexual contact with the student in his car in Brick, May 2024, and had met him at various locations. She also sent him nude photos, according to a report by NJ.com, which cited an affidavit of probable cause. A second victim later came forward, revealing the relationship had begun in November 2017, with sexual activity continuing into January 2018 at her home in Brick Township. The victim, who was 17 at the time, described the encounters as having taken place at her residence, with evidence from text messages and photos corroborating the allegations.

Sean O’Halloran, Wall Township police chief, addressed the case, stating that Rizzitello had abused her position as an educator. He emphasized that the actions of a former teacher represented a betrayal of trust, affecting not only the victims but also the school community. O’Halloran commended the courage of the victims in coming forward and the dedication of law enforcement in pursuing justice, highlighting the importance of safeguarding youth.

Rizzitello is set to be sentenced on January 9, 2025, with prosecutors recommending a 10-year prison sentence and registration as a sex offender under Megan’s Law. The law mandates that individuals convicted of certain sex offenses register with law enforcement. Additionally, prosecutors have called for lifetime parole supervision and a ban on public office for Rizzitello. Her annual salary at Wall Township Public Schools was approximately $62,000 before she resigned from her position in 2024.

Wall Township Public Schools has acknowledged the charges and committed to full cooperation with law enforcement, urging anyone with information to come forward. The case has ignited a broader discussion about the need for strict oversight and accountability in educational institutions to prevent such abuses of power and protect students from exploitation.
