Ukraine’s Public Opinion on Permanent Migration: 11% Seek Abroad Residence, 88% Prefer to Stay

A recent sociological study by Rating Group has revealed that only 11% of Ukrainians express a desire for permanent residence abroad, with the remaining 88% stating their intention to remain in Ukraine. Conducted between July 20 and 22, the poll highlights a strong sense of national cohesion and resilience among the population despite the ongoing conflict and various socio-economic challenges.

According to the survey, the majority of respondents indicated a preference to stay in their homeland, expressing a deep-rooted attachment to their country and its people. This sentiment is particularly notable given the current circumstances, which include the war in the east, economic difficulties, and the impact of international sanctions. The findings suggest that despite these hardships, a large portion of the Ukrainian population remains committed to their country’s future and stability.

The poll results also shed light on the attitudes of different demographic groups within Ukraine. While the overall percentage of those wanting to leave permanently is 11%, the survey indicates that younger generations may have different perspectives. Nearly one in five among the youth, or about 20%, express a desire to live abroad permanently, which is a significant but still minority figure. This suggests that while there is a generational divide, the majority of Ukrainians continue to prioritize staying in their homeland.

The study, titled ‘Problems of Social Cohesion in Ukraine,’ aims to understand the factors influencing social unity and collective identity in the country. The findings could be instrumental in shaping future policies aimed at fostering national unity and addressing the diverse needs of the population. As Ukraine continues to navigate its challenges, the poll provides valuable insights into the mindset of its citizens and their aspirations for the nation’s future.
