Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the disgraced music mogul, is reportedly under constant suicide watch at MDC Brooklyn, where his attorneys argue he is facing inhumane conditions. His legal team is pushing for a 14-month sentence ahead of his Oct. 3 sentencing hearing, claiming that the musician has already served 13 months behind bars and that continued detention no longer serves a rehabilitative purpose. The rapper, who was convicted in July for federal charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, remains locked up despite his legal team’s repeated demands for release.
Diddy’s legal team has argued that the rapper’s ‘swingers’ lifestyle with his ex-girlfriends is not a justification for continued imprisonment. The attorneys maintain that Mr. Combs has been sufficiently punished for his crimes and that the continued incarceration serves no positive goal. In fact, the sentencing memorandum obtained by Fox News Digital states that the courts should focus on rehabilitation and ensuring that the convicted person can reintegrate into their community as soon as possible. The legal team emphasized that Diddy fully intends to abide by all court orders and to repair relationships that have been damaged.
However, Diddy’s legal team also argued that sentencing guidelines should not apply in his case, citing the inhumane conditions he has endured at MDC Brooklyn over the past year. The filing noted that the consequences of his detention have included physical and mental suffering, and that his continued incarceration does not align with the purpose of the justice system. Despite these arguments, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected Diddy’s earlier request for release, citing the violence in his personal relationships. The judge pointed to video evidence of Diddy’s attack on his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel, which was released in May 2024, as a reason for his continued imprisonment.
With a maximum possible sentence of 20 years, Diddy faces significant legal consequences for his actions. His lawyers have also warned that the sentence could be substantial, with OJ Simpson’s lawyer expressing concerns about the severity of the punishment. While Diddy’s legal team claims he has already been punished enough, the court has yet to determine the final length of his sentence. As his sentencing hearing approaches, the case continues to generate intense media attention and public debate about the intersection of celebrity, legality, and incarceration.
