Kamala Harris Acknowledges Time Constraints as Key Factor in 2024 Election Loss

Former Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her new book, ‘107 Days,’ on ABC’s ‘The View,’ explaining that the limited time she had to campaign was a major reason for her defeat in the 2024 presidential election. Harris, who stepped in to replace President Joe Biden in the race less than four months before the November 5 vote, described the situation as unprecedented. She noted that Biden, the current sitting president, decided not to run for re-election following a poor debate performance against Trump in June 2024, leaving Harris to take the helm at an inopportune moment.

During the interview, Harris expressed that she believed the election was ultimately decided by the shortened timeline, which made it difficult to effectively mobilize her campaign. She admitted that she felt confident going into Election Day, only to be stunned by the results. The 2024 race, according to Harris, was the closest presidential contest of the 21st century, with Trump winning by a narrow margin in both the Electoral College and the popular vote. However, she noted that the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore was even tighter, with Bush securing the Electoral College by just five votes while winning the popular vote by less than one percent.
