The FBI has disclosed that the gunman who attacked the Dallas ICE facility aimed to create ‘real terror’ among agents. Joshua Jahn, 29, opened fire from a rooftop, killing one detain, seriously injures two others before taking his own life. FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the suspect conducted extensive pre-attack research, including searching for ballistic information and tracking apps used to monitor ICE personnel. Patel also noted that the shooter downloaded documents related to DHS facilities and searched for videos of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, indicating a high degree of planning.
The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday at a Dallas ICE facility. The perpetrator, identified as Joshua Jahn, was found dead with a rifle on a rooftop after the attack. The Department of Homeland Security indicated that the shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building and a nearby van where the victims were located. One of the three detainees in the unmarked transport van was killed, while the other two sustained injuries. The FBI is currently investigating the motive behind the attack, which appears to have been premeditated.
Patel highlighted that the shooter had previously searched ballistic information and videos related to the Charlie Kirk assassination. He also accessed apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents. A photo shared by Patel on X showed rifle-caliber ammunition engraved with an ‘anti-ICE’ message, suggesting the shooter’s intent was to provoke fear and terror among agents.
The FBI is working extensively to seize devices, analyze data, and process the recovered writings. One of the notes recovered during the investigation read, ‘Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP [armor-piercing] rounds on that roof?’’ This revelation underlines the level of planning and intent behind the attack. The shooter’s actions have sparked a broader discussion about the safety of ICE personnel and the potential for targeted violence against government agencies.
