Trump Endorses New Jersey GOP Gubernatorial Candidate, Slams Democratic Opponent

President Donald Trump reiterated his support for New Jersey Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli on Thursday, while simultaneously attacking the Democratic candidate, U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill. Trump characterized the recent poll as indicating that Ciattarelli is set to defeat Sherrill, despite misstating her name as ‘Mike.’ The endorsement follows Ciattarelli’s earlier victory in the Republican primary.

Trump highlighted Ciattarelli’s positions on reducing crime and lowering taxes, which he claims are essential for the current political climate. He further criticized Sherrill, accusing her of supporting Open Borders, allowing men to compete in women’s sports, and advocating for transgender inclusivity, which he argues threaten American values. Trump also referred to Sherrill as a potential future Communist mayor of New York City, emphasizing his belief that Ciattarelli is the best choice to lead New Jersey.

The election for governor is set for November 4, with early voting beginning on October 25. The state has already begun sending out mail-in ballots according to its established election timeline. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Ciattarelli, a shift from their previous support for incumbent Democratic Governor Phil Murphy, who is ineligible for a third term due to the state constitution.

Murphy, who has been in office since 2018, was not eligible to seek re-election due to the two-term limit. Ciattarelli previously ran in 2021 but lost to Murphy. The police union’s endorsement of Ciattarelli signifies a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, further bolstering his campaign as he seeks the governor’s office.
