A new list of top global and U.S. airlines highlights rise of boutique carriers and Fiji Airways’ historic achievement

APEX has announced the results of its latest ‘World Class’ airline ranking, which has named the top 10 carriers based on global service standards. This year’s list includes Fiji Airways, which has made history by being the first Oceania airline and the smallest in fleet size to receive the prestigious honor. The achievement marks a significant shift for the carrier, which has grown from being ranked outside the Top 100 in 2016 to now being one of the best in the industry. The recognition comes after a major overhaul that included upgrading in-flight experiences, enhancing dining with Pacific Rim cuisine, and training hundreds of cabin crew in high-quality service standards.

APEX’s list also highlights the growing influence of boutique and regional carriers, which are increasingly challenging the dominance of larger airlines by focusing on niche excellence, better service, and cultural authenticity. Francis Hellyer, co-founder of Tickadoo, emphasized that such airlines like Fiji demonstrate the potential for smaller carriers to stand alongside industry giants through commitment to service and a strong sense of brand identity. This trend is also evident in the U.S., where JSX, a Houston-based boutique airline, has topped the Travel + Leisure magazine’s 2025 World’s Best Awards for domestic services for the second year in a row. The airline is noted for its private jet-style service, speed, and amenities, which have received overwhelming reader praise.

The APEX ranking includes other notable airlines such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Japan Airlines. Japan Airlines was specifically recognized for its safety and well-being initiatives, while Saudia was honored for its exceptional service. The list also features Xiamen Airlines, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Saudia. These airlines, which are globally recognized for their innovation, passenger comfort, and safety measures, are expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of the aviation industry. The APEX CEO, Joe Leader, highlighted that achieving these high standards reflects a commitment to excellence, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, which are essential for meeting today’s traveler expectations.

The list also includes the U.S. carrier JSX, a Houston-based boutique airline, which has ranked first in domestic service for two consecutive years. The airline is praised for its efficient check-in, friendly staff, and excellent amenities, making the travel experience almost like flying private. This has positioned JSX as a leader in the U.S. market, particularly among travelers looking for a more personalized and high-quality service. The list also features Hawaiian Airlines, Breeze Airways, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Air Lines in the top five, with Delta being the only major ‘big four’ carrier to rank that high. The mix of legacy airlines and newer low-cost carriers in the top 10 underscores the evolving dynamics of the U.S. aviation industry, where innovation and customer-centric approaches are increasingly valued.
