Rick Dempsey, a former Disney executive with 35 years of experience in safeguarding iconic characters, is now leading the global translation efforts for the faith-based TV series ‘The Chosen.’ His role as Senior Vice President of Creative at Walt Disney Studios, where he oversaw character voice consistency for beloved characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, laid the foundation for his current mission of making the biblical drama accessible worldwide. After retiring in 2023, Dempsey was introduced to the Come and See Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding the reach of ‘The Chosen’ through its app, which offers the series in over 50 languages. The project, which is an unprecedented challenge, involves meticulous collaboration with theologians to ensure theological accuracy across 600 languages. Dempsey explained that the effort is a global mission, making the Gospel accessible to people in regions like the Middle East, where religious materials are often restricted. He emphasized that ‘The Chosen’ has already been recognized as the most-translated television show in history, with plans to continue expanding its global audience through accurate, culturally appropriate translations.
