Microsoft Set to Introduce Free Xbox Cloud Gaming with Ad Support

Microsoft is preparing to launch an ad-supported version of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, allowing users to stream select games for free without a Game Pass subscription. The initiative involves internal testing with employees, who have been granted access to play select titles for free. The testing includes around two minutes of preroll ads before gameplay begins. The ad-supported version will be available on PC, Xbox consoles, handheld devices, and via the web. This move is expected to expand Microsoft’s reach in the cloud gaming market by making its service more accessible to a broader audience. The service will include the ability to stream games you own, as well as eligible Free Play Days titles, which let Xbox players try games over a weekend. Users will also be able to stream Xbox Retro Classics games. The inclusion of ads is a strategic move to offset the costs of providing free access to gaming content, potentially increasing engagement and user base.
