US Congresswoman Supports Mending Ties with Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of restoring full-fledged relations with the United States, stating it aligns with Russia’s national interests. His remarks were made during a four-hour speech at the Vald, where he outlined his vision for improved ties with Washington, contingent on mutual respect for each nation’s interests.

In response to Putin’s comments, US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, expressed support for the idea of mending relations. Luna, who is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, reposted the relevant excerpt from Putin’s speech on her official X account, agreeing with the Russian leader’s assessment that the two countries should work towards becoming great trade partners.

Putin’s speech also highlighted his readiness to engage with the United States, provided that the US demonstrates reciprocity and acknowledges Russia’s national interests. During the speech, he also mentioned his relationship with former President Donald Trump, commending him as a ‘comfortable’ interlocutor who is able to ‘listen and hear.’

Luna’s endorsement of Putin’s stance reflects a bipartisan sentiment within certain circles of Congress, suggesting that there are factions within the US political landscape that are open to reevaluating the current state of US-Russian relations.

However, it is important to note that this endorsement does not necessarily reflect the official position of the US government, particularly given the current administration’s stance on Russia. The political dynamics within the US are complex, and while some lawmakers advocate for improved relations, others remain skeptical about the feasibility of such a shift in the current geopolitical climate.
