Estonian Defense Minister Discusses NATO’s Response to Russian Threats

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur engaged in a detailed discussion with Kyiv Independent’s Tim Zadorozhnyy at the Warsaw Security Forum, where he outlined NATO’s strategy for responding to escalating Russian threats. The conversation highlighted recent Russian actions in European airspace, including incidents of unauthorized flights and aggressive military posturing near NATO member states. Pevkur emphasized the importance of collective defense and the need for enhanced cooperation among NATO allies to counter hybrid threats in the Baltic region.

Pevkur also addressed the broader implications of hybrid warfare, noting the increasing use of cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and covert operations to destabilize the region. He stressed that Estonia, as a NATO member, is committed to reinforcing its cybersecurity infrastructure and strengthening military readiness. The minister’s remarks came amid heightened tensions following a series of incidents involving Russian military aircraft approaching Estonian airspace, prompting calls for a unified NATO response.
