Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has praised the Minnesota Vikings’ coaching staff for their advanced preparation methods, which he believes represent a ‘next-level’ approach to quarterback development. During an appearance on ‘Fitz & Whit,’ Jones discussed how his time with the Vikings, despite being brief, exposed him to a more thorough and meticulous preparation process compared to his earlier experiences with the Giants.
Jones, 28, joined the Vikings in Week 13 after being released by the Giants in Week 12 last season. He noted that the Vikings’ coaching staff, including head coach Kevin O’Connell and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, demonstrated a highly detailed approach to preparing their players. This included in-depth study of game plans, walking through scenarios, and quizzing each other in the quarterback room, which left a strong impression on Jones and motivated him to refine his own preparation methods.
Jones, who has taken on the nickname ‘Indiana Jones’ since joining the Colts, has helped lead the team to a 4-1 record. In five games, he has completed 71.3% of his passes for 1,290 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions, while also contributing with 56 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Despite his early success with the Giants, where he had a 28-45-1 record, Jones has played some of his best football for the Colts, showcasing a significant improvement in his performance.
The Colts’ next game is against the Arizona Cardinals (2-3) at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. This continued success for the Colts, with Jones at the helm, highlights the potential impact of the Vikings’ coaching philosophy on his development as a quarterback.
