Tagovailoa emphasized the need for accountability, suggesting that the team must address inconsistencies in small details for improvement.
During an interview, Tagovailoa pointed to the importance of leadership in articulating expectations and ensuring players meet them. He noted that some teammates were not showing up to meetings on time, which he believes could contribute to the team’s struggles. The quarterback also questioned whether these meetings should be mandatory, indicating that such logistical details must be addressed to improve team cohesion.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged the situation, stating that player-led meetings are additional to his demands. He reiterated the team’s accountability to him and emphasized that players have met expectations. However, McDaniel recognized the value of Tagovailoa’s direct communication in addressing individual shortcomings. Despite the loss, Tagovailoa managed 21 completions out of 32 attempts for 205 passing yards, including a key touchdown pass to Darren Waller. The Dolphins led 27-26 after Waller’s score, but the Chargers responded with a crucial kick return and field goal, sealing the win.
