UAB Fires Former Super Bowl Coach Trent Dilfer After 20-Point Loss to Florida Atlantic

The UAB Blazers have parted ways with head coach Trent Dilfer following a 20-point loss to the Florida Atlantic Owls. Dilfer’s tenure at UAB, which began in 2023, has been marked by continued struggles for the team, which now sits at 2-4 in the season. The announcement came on Sunday, following the team’s stunning loss to Florida Atlantic, which was its third win of the season.

Dilfer, a former Super Bowl champion with the Baltimore Ravens, was hired with high expectations at UAB but never managed to secure a winning season despite his extensive experience on the field. In a statement, UAB athletics director Mark Ingram emphasized the decision was made to realign the program’s long-term goals.
