Israel has identified the remains of the 10th deceased hostage handed over by Hamas via the Red Cross, officially confirming the remains belong to Eliyahu Margalit, who was killed during the October 7, 2023 attacks. Margalit, who lived in Kibbutz Nir Oz, was murdered at a horse stable in the village and his body was kept in Gaza for more than two years before being returned. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) noted that Hamas is required to fulfill its part of the agreement, ensuring that all hostages are returned for dignified burials.
Margalit’s family expressed gratitude for his return, describing the situation as a moment of immense relief and hope. His wife, three children, and grandchildren are left behind. Nili Margalit, his daughter, was taken hostage but was released during a brief November 2023 ceasefire. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the government shares in the deep sorrow of the Margalit family and all the families of the fallen abductees, committing to a continued effort to return all hostages for proper burial.
