During a Week 7 matchup on Sunday, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields took a hard hit from Carolina Panthers safety Nick Scott, sparking a brief skirmish among players. Fields was scrambling to his left with around 13:30 left in the first half when Scott came in hot and nailed Fields with his shoulder. Fields initially looked like he was seriously hurt before popping back up.
Scott was met with angry Jets players who confronted him at the end of the play, leading to a mild skirmish between players from both teams. Jets offensive lineman Armand Membou came over to pancake Scott at the end of the play, and Scott was eventually penalized for unnecessary roughness.
Fields left the game after the hit and was spotted going into the blue medical tent. He later returned to the game, with veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor coming in to finish the drive. Nick Folk kicked a 34-yard field goal to tie the game with the Panthers at three.
New York’s start to the 2025 season has been one of the biggest surprises. The Jets were 0-6 going into the game against the Panthers and were playing without star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Carolina has put together a 3-3 start to the season behind Bryce Young. The Panthers had a strong opening drive, with a 13-play, 54-yard drive that ended in a field goal.
While the Jets were looking to turn their season around, the incident highlighted the physical nature of professional football and the occasional tensions that can arise between players. The Panthers’ performance also underscored their competitive presence in the league this season.
