The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently released video footage highlighting the work of its Border Mounted Patrol Unit (BMPU) in apprehending a Mexican national with a lengthy criminal history. The incident occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border in Kinney County, Texas, where the BMPU, operating as part of Operation Lone Star, responded to a camera activation reported by a man on a private ranch.
Adan Delgado-Ortega, 52, was apprehended after being found hiding in thick brush. He was then turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). According to DPS, the BMPU, along with a K-9 and its handler, tracked and located Delgado-Ortega, who is a previously deported felon with multiple deportations dating back to 1998.
Officials confirmed that Delgado-Ortega’s criminal history includes multiple convictions for assault, family violence, weapons charges, evading arrest, and drug possession. His last deportation from the U.S. occurred in August 2025 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Oklahoma City. It remains unclear where and when he illegally reentered the United States.
CBP and ICE did not immediately respond to further inquiries from Fox News Digital. The incident has sparked discussions about border security and the challenges faced by law enforcement in apprehending individuals with prior criminal records. While the capture of Delgado-Ortega highlights the effectiveness of border patrols, it also underscores the broader issues of immigration enforcement and the recidivism of repeat offenders.
The footage shared by DPS serves as both a tactical and public relations tool, showcasing the operational capabilities of the Border Mounted Patrol Unit. It also reinforces the department’s commitment to border security and community safety. As part of Operation Lone Star, the BMPU continues to play a critical role in monitoring and responding to border activities, ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration laws and maintaining national security.
