Microsoft has unveiled Mico, a new AI assistant that resembles Clippy, the controversial paper clip from the 1990s. Mico is designed to enhance user interaction with Copilot by embodying it with a cartoon character that responds to emotions and engages in conversational tasks. The update aims to improve the user experience through more personalized and dynamic interactions, contrasting with the persistence of Clippy in the past. The new AI character can change colors, spin around, and wear glasses when in ‘study’ mode, offering a more engaging and expressive experience for users.
Unlike Clippy, Mico can be easily turned off, addressing past user frustrations. Microsoft’s product releases also include a new option to invite Copilot into group chats, reflecting a trend toward integrating AI into collaborative work environments. The initiative is part of Microsoft’s broader efforts to refine its AI services to better meet user needs and foster more natural interactions with technology.
