Ukraine’s Gas Imports to Exceed 4 bcm by End of 2025/2026 Heating Season

Ukraine’s National Gas Company, Naftogaz Ukrainy, has provided an update on the country’s energy demands for the upcoming 2025/2026 heating season. Serhiy Koretsky, the Board Chairman of Naftogaz, stated at a press conference that the nation will require over 4 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas imports to ensure a stable energy supply during the autumn and winter months.

This estimate is based on existing consumption patterns and projected demand for the heating season, which traditionally places a significant strain on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The additional imports are expected to help alleviate potential shortages and maintain the reliability of the country’s power grid during the colder months.

Koretsky also highlighted the importance of securing long-term energy partnerships, emphasizing that the country is working to diversify its sources of gas supply. He noted that while current negotiations with potential partners are ongoing, the need for a stable and secure energy supply remains a priority. The figures also underscore the financial implications for Ukraine, as the country continues to rely heavily on gas imports to meet its domestic energy needs.
