Pro-Trump Conservative Launches GOP Bid for Wisconsin Congressional Seat

Exclusive: Pro-Trump Conservative Launches GOP Bid for Wisconsin Congress Seat

Michael Alfonso, a 25-year-old pro-Trump conservative and the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, has officially launched his campaign for the Republican nomination in Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district. The district, which has been a reliably Republican stronghold since the 2020 election, is currently represented by incumbent Rep. Tom Tiffany, who recently announced his bid for governor. Alfonso, whose campaign touts him as a ‘pro-Trump conservative,’ is positioning himself as a continuation of the legacy of Duffy, who previously held the seat for over a decade. His campaign highlights the importance of traditional Wisconsin values—faith, community, and hard work—and promises to fight against what he describes as ‘radical left’ policies that threaten the American Dream.

Alfon, who is also the grandson of Cuban refugees who fled communist Cuba, has made his grandparents’ escape from communism a central theme of his campaign, warning that the country must not be transformed into the kind of socialist state his family left behind. He has also pledged to work with President Trump to implement policies that reduce the cost of energy, food, and housing. Alfon joins a crowded GOP primary field that includes other conservatives like businessman Paul Wassgren and public relations professional Jessi Ebben. Meanwhile, Democrats, including business owner Chris Armstrong and former state Rep. Fred Clark, are also vying for the nomination in the district. The race is part of a broader list of key 2025 elections that will shape the political landscape over the next several years.

In an accompanying campaign launch video, Alfonso emphasized the need for high-paying jobs in the district, stating, ‘Our district needs to bring in high-paying jobs, so people can plant their roots, raise their families here, and build a future they’re proud of.’ He added, ‘Because when young people can’t get ahead, they start listening to the lies of socialism.’ The video featured images of longtime Cuban communist leader Fidel Castro and Cuban Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, juxtaposed with pictures of progressive champions like Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, along with democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in this year’s race for New York City mayor.

Alfon’s campaign also highlights his personal background, including his work in construction and paving roads while paying his way through college. ‘I was born and raised with the traditional Wisconsin values of faith, community, and hard work — and now I’m ready to give back to the area that gave so much to me,’ Alfonso said. His campaign emphasizes the importance of preserving the ‘American Dream’ as defined by traditional Republican values, rather than the progressive social and economic policies that have gained traction in recent years.

The House district, which includes most of northwestern and north central Wisconsin, is solidly red, with Trump winning by 22 points in the 2024 presidential election and Rep. Tiffany securing a third term by 27 points. Alfonso’s entry into the race adds another layer to the GOP primary contest, which has already seen conservative figures like business owner Chris Armstrong and former state Rep. Fred Clark vying for the Democratic nomination. The district’s political landscape is expected to remain a key battleground in the years to come, with both parties seeking to solidify their foothold in a region that has historically leaned Republican.

Alfonso’s campaign also includes a strong emphasis on the role of the federal government in economic policy, stating that he will ‘work with President Trump to reform government, keep us safe, and bring down the cost of energy, food and housing.’ These promises align with the broader conservative agenda that has dominated the Republican Party in recent years, positioning Alfonso as a candidate who is both a product of and a reflection of the party’s evolving priorities. As the 2025 elections approach, candidates like Alfonso are likely to play a significant role in shaping the political discourse and outcomes that will define the next phase of American politics.
