JetBlue Flight Diverts to Tampa After Sudden Altitude Drop Injures Passengers

A JetBlue flight traveling from Cancun to New Jersey made an emergency diversion to Tampa, Florida, after an abrupt ‘drop in altitude’ left several passengers injured, according to the airline. Flight 1230, an Airbus 320, was headed to Newark Liberty International Airport when it experienced a ‘flight control issue’ and was diverted to Tampa International Airport around 2 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported.

Medical personnel were on site to evaluate passengers and crew, with those needing further care transported to a local hospital. The airline said they would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the sudden altitude loss, with the aircraft being removed from service for inspection.

JetBlue reiterated that the safety of their customers and crew is their top priority, offering support to those involved.

The FAA and the air carrier also announced they will conduct a full investigation into the incident.
