Charlie Sheen Reveals Betrayal Over Lost Role in ‘Born on the Fourth of July’
Charlie Sheen has opened up about the emotional turmoil he experienced when he learned that Tom Cruise had been cast as the lead in Oliver Stone’s iconic 1989 war drama, ‘Born on the Fourth of July,’ despite their informal agreement. The actor revealed that his brother, Emilio Estevez, was the one who broke the news, leaving him stunned. Sheen explained that he had believed he had secured the role due to previous conversations with Stone, but the director had chosen Cruise instead. He admitted that the betrayal was a significant blow, as he had invested a lot of personal passion into the project. However, he acknowledged Cruise’s talent and the film’s success, recognizing that the actor’s performance earned him an Academy Award nomination. Sheen also noted that the timing of losing the role allowed him to star in another major film, ‘Major League,’ which he believes would have been impossible if he had taken the ‘Born on the Fourth of July’ role.
