Two masked suspects remain at large following an intentional explosion at Harvard Medical School’s Goldenson Building on Saturday. The incident, which occurred just after 2:45 a.m., was reported to have occurred in a small section of the fourth-floor hallway. Harvard officials initially released details of the event in an update on Sunday, noting that two suspects wearing masks and head coverings were seen fleeing the building after the blast.
Despite the alarming nature of the event, the university clarified that no one was injured in the explosion, and the building did not sustain any structural damage. The section of the building affected has since been cleared and is fully operational, with all laboratories and equipment remaining unaffected.
The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) stated that there was no continued public safety threat and that it was safe for the campus to resume normal operations. The HUPD is maintaining an increased presence on the Longwood campus as the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit also investigated early reports indicating that the explosion appeared to be intentional, with an initial assessment suggesting a single device may have been involved.
The Boston Police Department conducted a sweep of the building to check for any additional devices, and no further threats were found. Although the investigation is ongoing, the campus is now open to students and faculty, and the university is working closely with authorities to ensure the safety of its community.
