Republican Congressman Brandon Gill has formally introduced impeachment articles against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, accusing him of compromising the impartiality of the judiciary and creating a constitutional crisis through his role in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation of former President Donald Trump. The resolution, obtained first by Fox News Digital, alleges that Boasberg authorized measures such as subpoenas and gag orders that targeted Republican lawmakers, drawing sharp criticism from Trump allies and prominent GOP senators.
Gill, a Texas-based Republican, accused Boasberg of “weaponizing his power against political opponents, including Republican members of Congress who are faithfully serving the American people within their jurisdiction.” The impeachment resolution charges Boasberg with one count of abuse of power, alleging that he granted Smith’s investigation authority to issue “frivolous nondisclosure orders” as part of the so-called Arctic Frost probe, which has been the focus of growing controversy.
The Arctic Frost probe, an investigation into former President Trump’s alleged actions related to the 2020 election, has drawn intense scrutiny for its tactics, including the issuance of subpoenas and gag orders directed at Republican lawmakers. These measures, which were signed off on by Boasberg, have prompted backlash from conservative lawmakers, including Sen. Ted Cruz, who called the probe “worse than Watergate.” The case has also raised questions about the constitutional protections afforded to lawmakers and the extent to which their communications can be scrutinized.
