Sea-Rescue NGOs Form Justice Fleet Amid Alleged Abuses in Libya

Thirteen international sea-rescue NGOs have formed the ‘Justice Fleet’ as a direct response to the allegations of serious human rights abuses against Libya’s rescue coordination centre. The decision to suspend cooperation was made after uncovering reports of forced labor and torture, which have intensified international scrutiny of the region.

The NGOs, which have long operated in the Mediterranean, are now seeking to hold accountable those responsible for these alleged violations. The formation of the Justice Fleet signals a shift in strategy, with the group aiming to advocate for victims and push for international legal action. This move comes amid growing concerns over the humanitarian situation in Libya, where many migrants and refugees have been subjected to inhumane treatment.
