Former TV anchor Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock, 47, has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, in their Wichita, Kansas home on Halloween, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
Mock, who previously anchored for FOX 2 News in St. Louis, was arrested on October 31 after police reported that Avers was found with multiple stab wounds inside the house they shared. When officers responded to the scene around 7:50 a.m., they discovered Mock outside with cuts on her hands, according to the Wichita Police Department. The incident has sparked significant community concern, with neighbors expressing trauma at the sight of a bloodied Mock emerging from the home.
Neighbors in the area were deeply affected by the event. Alyssa Castro, a local resident, told KAKE that Mock approached their vehicle with visible injuries, asking for immediate medical help. Castro noted that Mock had taken her boyfriend’s phone and returned to the house before calling authorities, claiming she had stabbed her mother to save herself, as reported by Sedgwick County dispatchers. However, the motive behind the alleged act remains unclear, and details about Mock’s initial court appearance were not immediately available.
Mock’s employment history shows she worked as a morning news anchor at FOX 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and held positions at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City. At the time of her arrest, she was employed in sales at a data management software company, according to her LinkedIn profile. The case has drawn attention as Mock’s story highlights the potential legal and social complexities surrounding such crimes. It also serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of family violence and the severity of the charges for such an act.
