Poland’s parliament has rejected a controversial bill proposed by President Karol Nawrocki to outlaw the glorification of Ukrainian nationalist groups that collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II. The legislation, which aimed to criminalize the public promotion of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), faced strong opposition in the Sejm, the lower house of parliament. On Friday, the Sejm voted 244-198 to dismiss the presidential draft, with three lawmakers abstaining from the decision. This marks a significant setback for Nawrocki’s efforts to address historical grievances related to wartime collaboration.
