Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy Faces Daily Antisemitism
Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy has raised concerns about an increasing amount of antisemitic hostility that he is facing. In a preview for an upcoming interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Portnoy described how the level of such hatred has ‘dramatically increased,’ with the attacks now occurring regularly rather than intermittently.
Portnoy, who is Jewish, stated that the rise in antisemitic incidents has taken a significant toll on the public, with the situation worsening as he has become a more prominent figure. He emphasized that the situation has reached a point where the frequency and intensity of antisemitic comments have become a daily reality, unlike in the past when the issues were less frequent and more occasional.
The incidents are highlighted by the recent experiences Portnoy has had, including an instance in Toronto where an individual shouted an antisemitic slur while he was recording a review. Similar events have occurred, including one in Philadelphia where a sign with the phrase ‘f— the Jews’ was found at a Barstool Sports bar. These occurrences have reinforced Portnoy’s view of the growing hostility towards Jewish individuals.
Portnoy has also taken steps to address these situations, including offering to send the individuals responsible to Auschwitz in Poland as a learning experience about the Holocaust. However, he later stated that this offer was revoked for one of the accused after the individual denied responsibility for the incident.
The overall sentiment surrounding Portnoy’s situation reflects the broader concerns about antisemitism in various contexts, which he has consistently addressed. His public stance has shown a strong commitment to fighting against such hostility.
