Teen Bus Crash in Southern California Leaves 20 Injured

A bus carrying teenagers and adults returning from a camp in the San Bernardino Mountains overturned near Running Springs, sending 20 people to hospitals, authorities said. The incident occurred on State Route 330 just before 9 p.m. Sunday, with 36 passengers on board when the bus overturned. Authorities reported that 26 patients, including three with major injuries, were treated, with 20 transported to hospitals. The San Bernardino County Fire Department noted that some passengers escaped through a standing hatch, and the response included 11 fire engine companies, 11 ambulances, and four chief officers.

The passengers, a mix of adults and teens, were traveling downhill on the way home to Orange County after attending a camp in the San Bernardino Mountains near Angelus Oaks, the department said. The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the incident. The road was closed in both directions during the investigation at the scene. There was no fire or hazardous material exposure, the fire department said.

While the investigation is ongoing, emergency services worked quickly to ensure the safety of the passengers. The first patients were en route to a hospital within 15 minutes of crews responding. The incident has prompted increased attention to road safety and transportation protocols, especially for buses traveling in mountainous regions. Officials have urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant on the roads, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
